Pram Maintenance for Indian Weather - What Nobody Tells You

India's climate does specific things to prams that European guides never mention. Here's how to keep it in good condition:

India's climate does specific things to prams that European guides never mention. Here's how to keep it in good condition:

Summer (March–June, up to 45°C)

  • Never leave a pram in the car or balcony in direct sunlight - fabric and plastic parts degrade rapidly
  • Check that metal buckles haven't heated up before putting baby in
  • Wipe down fabric with a damp cloth after sweaty outings - salt from sweat deteriorates fabric faster than dirt
  • Time outdoor strolls: before 9 AM or after 5 PM. Midday sun is not safe for infants in any stroller regardless of canopy

Monsoon (June–September)

  • Dry the frame and wheels fully after every wet outing - steel frames rust at bolt points first
  • Remove and air-dry the seat pad if it gets wet - damp fabric grows mould within 24-48 hours in Indian humidity
  • Apply a thin coat of WD-40 or similar to wheel axles and fold joints once a month
  • Check for mud in wheel mechanisms after market or outdoor visits - clogged wheels wear out faster

Cleaning the Fabric

  • Most removable seat pads can be hand-washed with mild soap - check your model's manual
  • Never use harsh detergents or bleach on harness straps - they degrade the webbing strength
  • Harness straps: wipe only with a damp cloth - do not machine wash or soak
  • Canopy: spot-clean with mild soap; harsh rubbing damages the UPF coating

5 Common Pram Buying Mistakes Indian Parents Make

Mistake

Why It Matters

What to Do Instead

Buying based on looks online

Photos don't show wheel size, suspension quality, or actual fold size

Try to see it in person at a baby store, or watch unboxing YouTube reviews from Indian parents

Ignoring the fold weight

A 10-12 kg stroller becomes a significant burden when carried up stairs, into cabs, or on public transport

Under 8 kg is the practical threshold for most Indian families

Not checking lift dimensions

A stroller that doesn't fit your apartment lift is a stroller you'll never use

Measure your lift width and compare against folded stroller width before buying

Skipping the safety certification check

Many cheap strollers have no independent safety testing despite claiming 'EN certified' on packaging

Ask for the actual EN 1888 test certificate, not just the logo

Buying too much too early

You don't know your lifestyle yet - many parents buy a premium stroller and rarely use it

Start with a mid-range option. You can always upgrade once you know how you actually use it

Quick Decider - Which Pram Is Right for You?

I have a newborn and want maximum comfort → Mee Mee Premium Pram or Babyhug Cosy Cosmo

I live in a city with potholed roads → R for Rabbit Chocolate Ride

I travel by flight frequently → Chicco Liteway or Graco Breaze Lite

My budget is under ₹6,000 → LuvLap Sunshine Plus

I want GPS peace-of-mind → Hababy Ultra

I am in a Tier 2/3 city and need offline availability → LuvLap Sunshine Plus or R for Rabbit

Joint family - grandparents will use it too → LuvLap Sunshine Plus (simplest fold) or Babyhug Cosy Cosmo

Budget is not a concern → Chicco Liteway or Stokke YOYO³
