5 Things Every Child Needs to Hear from Their Parent

Words are the scaffolding of our inner thoughts and beliefs. The regular voice a child hears from their parent becomes their inner voice for life. Here are 5 messages worth saying regularly.

Words are the scaffolding of our inner thoughts and beliefs. The regular voice a child hears from their parent becomes their inner voice for life. Here are 5 messages worth saying regularly.

Say These. Mean Them. Repeat.

  • 'I love you — unconditionally.' Not 'I love you, when...' or 'I love you, if...' Just: love. Full stop. It's just love.
  • 'I have faith in you.' It's your faith that they need, especially when they are having a tough time and not believing in themselves. When you have faith in them, they have faith in themselves.
  • 'Everyone makes mistakes. We learn from them.' Not believing in yourself is common with children who fear making mistakes. It's ok to stumble, just try again.
  • 'I'm sorry.' This is what you say when you, for example, lose your temper. Saying this ensures children you can improve the situation.
  • 'I'm proud of the person you are.' What you do does not define who you are. Let them know you see them outside of what they achieve.

It's not expected for you to say all five in one day, but at least one should be said for each of the days. Meaning one needs to be genuinely said each day.

What is the one that you wish you heard the most when you were a child? Below is what needs to be said.
