Tagging a screen-free evenings for families in India, no screen after dinner habits, family evening routines without TV

Evenings are when screen time battles are the fiercest. But, evenings are when you can engage most fully. Here’s how to win back family time

Habits to Establish Tonight

  • “Roses and Thorns” dinner ritual – everyone goes around the table and shares a rose (good thing) and a thorn (bad thing) for the day. No devices ON the table, no exceptions.
  • Read aloud for 30 minutes after dinner. Yes, even to older kids. Pick a book everyone can agree to. You'll be amazed at the stories you can share after this.
  • After dinner family stroll. Just 15 minutes will do. You can bring along the family dog, and the conversation is less formal and screen-less.
  • Family game night. Pick one family game that rotates each week.
  • A ‘quiet hour’ can replace screens. Everyone can pick their preferred activity to wind down.

The goal is to have low-pressure, unstructured time. Boring evenings can be the best.
