Raksha Bandhan Sweet Recipes 2027 -The Mithai That Makes the Festival

Explore easy homemade Raksha Bandhan sweets with traditional mithai recipes, simple ingredients, and festive dessert ideas to make your Rakhi celebration more special.

On Raksha Bandhan, sweets carry the weight of the relationship. The sister feeds the first sweet to her brother with her hand. He feeds one to her. The exchange of sweetness is the festival made tangible. Making them at home -even a simple coconut ladoo -makes this moment yours.

5 Rakhi Sweets Worth Making at Home

1. Coconut Ladoo -10 Minutes, 4 Ingredients

  • 2 cups desiccated coconut + 1/2 cup condensed milk + 1/4 tsp cardamom + pinch saffron
  • Mix in bowl. Shape into balls. Roll in extra coconut. Refrigerate 2 hours. Done.
  • Children can make these independently from age 6. The simplest, most universally loved Rakhi sweet.

2. Besan Ladoo (see also Ganesh Chaturthi blog)

The full recipe is in the Ganesh Chaturthi blog. Besan ladoo is the most gifted and most loved sweet across both festivals -the roasting of besan in ghee is a ritual in itself.

3. Peda -Milk Peda in 15 Minutes

  • 400g condensed milk + 1 cup milk powder + 1 tbsp ghee in a non-stick pan. Cook on medium stirring constantly until thick and leaving the pan (12–15 minutes). Add cardamom. Shape into flat rounds. Top with pistachio.

4. Anjeer (Fig) Barfi -No Cook, Highly Impressive

  • Soak 15–20 dry figs in warm water 2 hours. Drain. Blend to smooth paste.
  • Mix with 1/4 cup each ground almonds and ground pistachios. Add cardamom.
  • Shape into a log, roll in chopped pistachios, slice into rounds. Refrigerate 1 hour.
  • No cooking, no sugar added, naturally sweet from the figs. Genuinely impressive.

5. Shahi Tukda -The Indulgent Festival Dessert

  • Fry thick bread slices in ghee until golden. Dip in thin sugar syrup briefly.
  • Arrange in a dish. Top with thick chilled rabri (thickened sweetened milk with cardamom and saffron). Garnish with slivered almonds and rose petals. Serve immediately.
