- Count: every windowsill, door frame, rangoli space, inside rooms, terrace/balcony. 50-100 diyas is typical for a medium home. Buy 20% extra.
- Purchase cotton wicks and pure mustard oil or ghee - ghee burns brighter and more auspiciously; mustard oil is traditional in many North Indian regions.
- Decorative diyas: painted, coloured, or shaped diyas for indoor display and gifting - available at craft stores and online.
