The Sleep Rule That Matters More Than Screen Limits

Sleep loss is one of the biggest harms of excess screen use. This blog explains the single most effective rule parents can enforce.

If parents enforce only one screen-time rule, it should be this:

No screens one hour before sleep.

Blue light suppresses melatonin, delays sleep, and impacts emotional regulation—especially in growing brains.

Children who use screens late at night show:
• Poor concentration
• Increased irritability
• Lower academic performance

Replacing screens with calming routines—reading, conversation, journaling—helps the brain wind down naturally.

Charging devices outside the bedroom is not punishment; it’s protection.

Parents who prioritize sleep often notice improvements in behavior even without reducing daytime screen use.
